God’s Dream for Oak Grove Church

Mission of Oak Grove Church:  We exist to Glorify God via:

  • Evangelism, Fellowship, Worship, Teaching, & Mercy.

Vision of Oak Grove Church: We will transform our community,1 one life at a time.2

These are our Dreams:
We will be known in Evansville as a community[3] that worships[4] and lives in the presence of God[5].
We will be known in Evansville as a community where the hurting, harassed and helpless can find healing, hope and help[6].
We will invest our talents, money, energy, time and lives to make Jesus Christ King over all Evansville and Southern Wisconsin[7].
We will submit ourselves personally and corporately at OGC to the authority of Jesus Christ, by striving to proclaim and apply the full counsel of God’s Word[8].
We will harvest the firstfruits[9] of our generation – 720 new members into the Kingdom of God (7,193 = population of 53536 in 2000).
We will disciple all members to become ministers in the Kingdom[10].
We will send 72 new missionaries[11] into Kingdom work.

  1. Mt 28:19 Make disciples of all nations/peoples not just individuals. Our mission is to transform the community of Evansville for Jesus Christ, for God is building a holy people for himself, not just a collection of individuals. (1 Peter 2:9-10) We are still learning what a transformed community will look like. ↩
  2. Transformation of a community will be promoted as it witnesses the transformation of individuals and as those transformed people tell others of the hope they have found in Jesus Christ. ↩
  3. Community = a congregation of diverse individuals who enjoy fellowship with one another and who are of one mind to make Jesus Christ king over their lives and over Evansville. (1 Chronicles 12:38) ↩
  4. Our Worship will become known as a worship that engages all of our being (Matthew 22:37) and that is blessed by the presence of the Spirit of Christ.(1 Corinthians 2:4) ↩
  5. Rather than focusing our prayers & attention on the absence of barriers, we will focus on the presence of God. (Psalm 89:14-18). His presence is more critical than the absence of anything else. ↩
  6. (Matthew 9:36-38) Jesus saw the crowds and had compassion on them because they were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” The greatest expression of love & compassion for these hurting folks is to introduce them to the Great Shepherd – our King Jesus Christ. ↩
  7. 1 Chronicles 12:38 – we will be a people who are “fully determined” to make Jesus Christ king over our community and region. We will express our determination and zeal by the commitment of the resources and gifts God grants us. ↩
  8. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & Hebrews 1:1-3 ↩
  9. James 1:16-18 “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (See also Acts 2; Nehemiah 10:35; Revelation 14:1-5; 2 Chronicles 31:4-6 & Malachi 3:10) ↩
  10. Mt 28:18-20 We are making disciples who love Jesus Christ and follow him in obedience. (John 14:15 “If you love me you will obey what I command.”) ↩
  11. Matthew 9:36-38 “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” We will be a community that sends workers out into the harvest, not only in Evansville and Southern Wisconsin, but into the rest of America and the world. (Acts 1:8) ↩
