Worship

Worship

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  Colossians. 3:16-17

What is Worship?

At Oak Grove Church, worship is not just singing – nor is it a three-song warm-up for the sermon.  Worship doesn’t only happen when believers gather for Sunday services, nor is it an event – it’s a lifestyle!  When we define worship as giving God our time, attention and affection, there isn’t any area of life that’s not involved.

It’s all worship!  Playing with our kids, encouraging a friend, conscientious work, and yes, gathering with other believers to sing, read the Word, love God and one another are all forms of our worship to the Lord.

When our hearts are continually connected to God’s, the worship never stops.

How do we Worship?

Jesus said the Father is seeking worshipers, but He is seeking a certain kind of worshiper – those who will worship both in Spirit and truth.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)

  • We worship in Spirit through our communication and relationship with Him, striving to authentically reflect who He is in us to others.
  • We worship in truth as we align our worship to what God has revealed in Scripture.
  • The Bible guides us in the way of truth, for in it God has revealed both who He is and how we are to approach Him with reverent joy in corporate worship services.

Why do we Worship?

Our goal is to have a constant awareness and demonstration of God’s presence in our lives - in everything we do and say, in our relationships and our tasks, as well as our Sunday corporate celebrations.  This is the foundation upon which the worship ministry at Oak Grove Church is built.

Opportunities to serve in the Worship Ministry

We believe those who are called to lead worship are held to a high standard of responsibility and accountability for their service.

A Worship Team Member:

  • Must be a born again believer whose desire is to serve the Lord in all that they do.
  • Must be a worshiper and a person dedicated to prayer and reading the Word (striving for daily time in both).
  • Endeavor to live a holy life, as you are an example to the Body of Christ.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the Worship Team positions listed below, please download a copy of the Worship Team Handbook and fill out the application. If you prefer, you can view an online copy of the Handbook and Application.

Sound Board Operator

Sound Operator

  • Run the sound board for both Sunday morning services on your scheduled week.
  • You may be called upon to do the occasional special service/event as well.  Training is provided, but an ear for music, sound, blend, etc. is important.

Power Point Operator

PowerPoint Operator

  • Run the PowerPoint presentation for both services on Sunday morning as scheduled.  You are not responsible for putting together the song or announcement slides, but may need to edit the songs if needed and add slides that Pastor Josh will give to you for the sermon that day.
  • Training is provided, but basic computer skills and knowledge of PowerPoint 2007 (editing, troubleshooting, etc.) is helpful.
  • Attention to detail is appreciated.

Musicians

  • We are always looking for musicians with a heart to serve and worship the Lord with their instruments.  This can be done on a rotational or weekly basis, as additions to special services, or for special music as appropriate.
  • The musicians do not just accompany the people in front – we are all worship leaders.

Singers

  • We don’t have lead or back-up singers – we are all worship leaders.  This means we worship.  It means we sing with a purpose because we have a responsibility as leaders to be prepared, both musically and spiritually.
  • With our current schedule, each group of singers leads worship for both services every other Sunday.

Greeters

  • Arrive 25 minutes early.
  • Assure chair lift is working and that you know how to operate it. (You will be taught how it works.)
  • Assure all doors are open and walkways clear.  You are not responsible for shoveling the walkways, but sometimes the front steps and surrounding area may need to be brushed away again or more salt put down in the winter.
  • Greet people as they arrive, be informed and willing to direct families who need the nursery, restrooms, etc.
  • Hand out bulletins
  • If possible, one person should be outside front door to welcome visitors and open door.
  • Find replacement if you are unable to serve on your assigned week.  Let Judy know who your replacement is.
